Remember those old Biker Build off programs? Ah happy days. I always remember my reaction to the amazing wheels that Billy lane always seemed to magic up from his imagination, you know what I’m talking about, no spokes et etc. Well, a new video released by American chopper designers shows hubless wheels, similar to those featured on Honda’s stunning V4 concept bike, being successfully used on the roads.
Tennessee-based Amen Design built a concept chopper based around Italian engineer Franco Sbarro’s hubless wheels back in 2005.
They have finally got the Hubless Monster out on the road and just released a video showing the futuristic rims in action.
Hubless wheels work by fixing the rotating parts, such as the brake ring, to an outer side of a non-rotating inner ring that is attached to the front forks.
Those featured on the Hubless Monster have 23” diameter tyres and use friction drive technology from a carnival Ferris wheel.
These wheels are lighter, reduce structural stress and are said to provide more accurate steering.
